In 2015, heated debate continued in the NC General Assembly regarding sales tax reform in North Carolina. Additional sales tax changes were made in 2015, many of which go into effect on March 1, 2016. However, these sales tax changes do not directly affect the septage management firms and portable sanitation firms in NC. For detailed information, please review the NCDOR published tax bulletins outlined here.

2011 NC GENERAL ASSEMBLY convened on January 26, 2011.  In the face of revenue shortfalls and budget cuts, some NC government agencies want to assess new fees.  Our lobbyists are working to prevent any increase in fees for the septage management industry.

Congratulations to former Representative Lucy Allen, confirmed in 2010 as a new member of the NC Utilities Commission.  She sponsored legislation for us in 2009.

2010 NC GENERAL ASSEMBLY convened on May 12, 2010 and is due to adjourn in early July.

For information on status of pending legislation, attend one of our 2010 Educational Seminars or call Lobbyist Joe McClees.

OUR 2009 LEGISLATION PASSED & is in effect!

Several members have had problems with vandalism of property. We addressed this problem with the help of Rep. Lucy Allen and Sen. Doug Berger of the NC General Assembly.

Rep. Lucy Allen introduced House Bill #616 and Sen. Doug Berger introduced Senate Bill #714.  The House bill "Offense of Pumper Portable Toilet/Pumper Trucks" moved first, passed the House, passed the Senate, and was signed into law by Governor Beverly Perdue on May 27, 2009.  For the text of the law, click here to see SL2009-37.

The NC General Assembly will next convene on May 12, 2010.  If you are interested in legislative issues, please do not hesitate to contact our lobbyist Joe McClees.
